Design Brief
__
To design a 3D puzzle for children (age 8 +) that helps them learn about endangered species through play and sensitizes them toward the issue. The first animal in the series was the hawksbill turtle.
Form Explorations
__
It was important to study the different forms though sketching, since the end result was a 3D model. It was essential to highlight physical features particular to the Hawksbill Turtle and the ones that help identify it from other turtles.
Joinery Explorations
__
Many paper and corrugated mock ups were made to explore different joineries. These were refined over CAD models and finally MDF was laser cut.
Final concept: As children build the model, they discover fun facts about the animal behind every the body part / puzzle piece.
